Care Guide: Wool Jackets and Coats
Our classic casual wool jackets are made from ZQ+ wool grown in New Zealand. They're rugged, hard-wearing, and designed to cope with life outdoors - but gentle care will keep the fibres performing at their best.
Recommended Care
- Air first, spot clean when possible
- Hang your garment outside on a sunny day to refresh it and remove light odours or dampness
- Cold hand wash only, when needed
- Use a wool-specific detergent - it's kinder to fibres and won't leave residue
- Rinse thoroughly
- Ensure all detergent is removed
- Gently squeeze out excess water
- Do not rub or wring
- Dry flat in the shade
- Helps retain shape and prevent shrinkage
- Warm iron inside out, if needed
- Fabric softeners are not to be used for wool
Dry cleaning is possible, but we recommend hand washing where practical to help reduce energy use and unnecessary chemicals.
Why less washing is better
Wool naturally resists odour and bacteria, so frequent washing isn't just unnecessary - it can shorten the life of the garment. Airing and spot cleaning will often do the job.
Tailored Wool Coats
Tailored wool coats are more structured, and their construction makes them unsuitable for washing at home.
Care Instructions
Dry clean only
We recommend choosing a dry cleaner that uses energy-efficient machinery and biodegradable cleaning products where possible.
Between cleans, simply hanging your coat outdoors to air will help freshen it naturally.
Helpful Tips for All Wool Garments
- Always check the care label before cleaning
- Wash wool only when it truly needs it
- Keep garments away from direct heat or tumble dryers
- Store wool folded (not hung) when not in use
